Short Term Missionaries

Naomi and Rachael arrived safely to Gulu on Monday June 11 at around 6 pm Uganda time. Judith and I picked them from Kampala; we were a little late getting to the bus park, However we made it safely to Gulu. For the past one week they have been going to Keyo, an IDP camp in the area. They have been ministering to the people there. The first day they spoke to about 20 young women –mostly child mothers between the ages of fifteen and twenty. They taught them about cleanliness.

The people in the IDP camp have so many medical problems, so they kept peppering Naomi and Rachael with questions about what their conditions are called, where they come from, and how to treat them. Some of the things they could tell, by common sense, but for the most part their answers consisted of “Keep it clean and go to the doctor.”

They also did a children’s program on two of the days. It included Bible stories, memorization, and singing songs. They taught them “Jesus Loves Me” in Acholi, and it was awesome to hear them singing it as they left the meeting. What is better than to hear children walking around singing “Yes, Jesus loves me…” even if it was the only thing they learned from the lesson. Naomi told them the story of Jonah and the Whale and how important it is to obey God when He tells you to do something even if we don’t like what He is saying. Rachel talked to the child mothers about newborns and how to take care of them properly. After that we refreshed their memories about “cleanliness of the body” and then Rachel told them about “cleanliness of the soul”. Rachel presented the gospel message to them and at the end Naomi took over and told them that if they truly believed what Rachel was talking about, they could follow her in a prayer and confess their need for a Savior. We made sure to emphasize that they should only do this if they truly believed in Jesus and what He did for them on the cross. Naomi started the prayer and Judith (my wife) . translated. About half the girls present repeated it in Acholi. Right after we finished praying Naomi told them how happy she was and that now we were all sisters. They laughed at that and seemed to enjoy hearing that. The pastor we work with Pastor Robinson Ayella promised that he would follow up and continue to disciple the new believers. The ministry is so far so good we are very excited and encouraged. We’re grateful that the Lord has brought Naomi and Rachael to us. We have also had several people start the application process to Volunteer with Dream Center Uganda in Northern Uganda. We are humbled that these amazing men and women of God would join us in this work among the least of the least. In August Julie oostidyke, the nurse will be here to do medical services in the IDP camps for 2 years in Northern Uganda. We will continue to pray for her preparations and flight to Uganda. It seemed so impossible

As I considered the price, one would pay to buy a laptop Computer in Uganda to use for Dream Center work, it seemed too expensive to the extent that I still could not see any possibility of getting one. How would it work out? Could it really be bought? I knew that only God could work out all the details and provide all the resources that we needed. He alone could make the impossible possible. So how did God do it? First of all, we had faith beyond reasonable doubt that what is impossible with man is possible with God. At dream center Uganda we believe in asking God and telling His people about our needs. God uses People. We kept on wring to friends requesting them to pray that God would provide laptop and also to tell their friends about our work in Gulu. Rachael and Naomi shared with their friends and God provided through them $ 1000 for a laptop. We are so grateful and thankful to God for a new Toshiba satellite Laptop Computer

God did exceeding abundantly above!

“Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, with Him be glory…..” I have to admit, to my shame that it did seem very impossible. But God made the impossible possible. In fact, He did exceeding abundantly

above! We are awed by His goodness and supply.
